There are different ways to drink a colada depending on where it originates. In Medellin, for example, people prefer to sip the beverage while sitting outside on a patio. In Cartagena, however, there is a popular tradition of drinking coladas inside bars.
In Cartagena, people typically use one hand to hold a glass and the other to pour the colada into the mouth. This method is called mamando, meaning “to suck.” People often say that mamando makes the best colada.
Sharing colada is like having a conversation with someone over coffee. You can tell a lot about a person just by what they choose to talk about. For instance, if someone asks you how you’re doing, you might feel obligated to respond with something about yourself. Or maybe you’ll want to know more about the person asking. To use a french press, put about 3/4 cup of ground coffee into the bottom section of a french press. Add cold water to cover the coffee grounds. Place the plunger on the top section of the french press and push down firmly. Let the coffee steep for about 30 seconds. Remove the plunger and strain out the grounds. Pour the brewed coffee into a cup and enjoy!

- 2 cups water
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon instant espresso powder
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1. Bring water to boil in a saucepan over medium heat.

Afterward, remove the plunger and strain the coffee through a fine mesh strainer.
- Instant Espresso – this is an alternative to the French press method. To do this, simply combine 1 part water to 3 parts coffee grounds. Let the mixture steep for 10-15 minutes. Strain the mixture and serve immediately.
- Cold Brewing – this is yet another way to make Cuban coffee without having to go to the trouble of brewing coffee. Simply combine coldwater and coffee beans and allow the mixture to steep overnight. In the morning, strain the mixture and serve.
- Chemex – this is similar to the cold brew method. Instead of steeping the mixture overnight, however, it is left to infuse for several hours.
- Aeropress – this is also known as the vacuum brewer method. To do this method, firstrinse the coffee beans and then place them inside the aeropress. Pour enough water into the aeropress so that the coffee comes about halfway up its sides. Close the lid and let it steep for 15-20 minutes. Afterwards, carefully open the lid and filter the coffee.
- Moka Pot – this is one of the oldest ways to make coffee. To do this method youwill need a moka pot or stovetop espresso maker. Place the coffee beans on top of the stove and heat them until they start to crackle. Remove the beans from the heat and let them cool down before grinding them.
- Electric Coffee Maker – this is a quick and easy way to make Cuban coffee in the comfort of your own home. All you need is an electric coffee maker. Place the coffee grounds inside the machine and fill it with filtered water. Turn the machine on and wait for the coffee to drip out.
- Automatic Coffee Maker – this method requires no manual effort whatsoever. It automatically makes perfect Cuban coffee every time. Simply follow the instructions and enjoy!
